Production, Distribution, and Exhibition

My film would be a small-scale production, considering elaborate sets would not be used, and it would all take place in the same general location. Additionally, there will not be an expansive cast, nor excessive costuming, props, decor, etc. This is due to the fact that it would be financed independently, so there is not a large budget to work with. Therefore, I would have to make use of the items I have available to me, which I personally do not see as very limiting. In a way, it allows me to be more creative, because I can use what is around me as inspiration for certain scenes or where I want the story to go. It would be a challenge, but it would be enjoyable to take on, and I think it would make for an interesting final product. I do not have a preference for who stars in my film, and I would likely just recruit any of my friends that are willing to help out, as I believe most of them have the same general ability to act. Although, whoever is the most comfortable being on camera will likely be cast as the protagonist.

I would most likely just upload the entire film to YouTube and see how much attention it receives on there. It seems to be the most realistic option to me since that way it could reach a broad audience for free. Money is not really a motivator for me, although if the film were to gain traction, YouTube's monetization system could create revenue. If the film were distributed by a larger company, they would take a percentage of any earnings. Since this is an independent project though, all potential revenue would go directly to me. For promotion, I would share the film on social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter since that seems to be the easiest way to increase visibility based on what I have seen from others. I could also submit it to short film festivals or online contests if I desired to. However, I do not envision myself deviating from the ways of sharing and promoting that I am already familiar with.

Since my film would be released on YouTube, people would watch it for free by accessing the video online. I suppose the success of it would be determined by the number of views, likes, comments, the average watch time, etc. Again, because this is an independent project, there would not be any investors or companies taking a share of the revenue. Any money would primarily come through ad revenue, and of course YouTube would take a percentage before I would receive any earnings. I do not exactly know what ancillary revenue sources I would make money off of. This is mainly because I do not see myself attempting to merchandize unless it was something a large amount of people wanted. Although, if any reputable company reached out and offered a fair deal, it is not like I would refuse that. Overall, if I were to continue on with this project, I would handle any outcomes of it like any other reasonable person.
